My fresh paper airplane tattoo. Got it for a number of reasons, all in memory of my Grandpa George:

1) He taught me how to make paper planes (thought I’m still not very good). As a kid, we’d throw them over the balcony above the kitchen while my grandma made dinner as an attempt to scare her. Also, paper planes have this feeling of whimsy and playfulness which describes Grandpa George’s approach to life.

2) He was a pilot in WW2; something that I greatly admire about him and that I also had a lot to do with how he became the great person he was.

3) the plane being made of paper makes me think of the letters he’d write. They came often and were filled with praise and loving words for my sister and me. And he always signed each one: “Loads of Love, George”. That’s also how he signed his first Army Air Corps photo he sent home to his mother.

I like that I have something to always carry with me and remind me of so many good things.
