On the left is Mt Whitney, the highest geographical point in the continental United States. 14,504 feet It took millions of years to reach this height. I have an innate calling to the mountains when I am there I feel at peace with the world my life seems right. The quote is from a great man named John Muir, “the mountains are calling and I must go" the first time I read that quote I felt a certain kinship to this man who lived 100 years ago he is the father of forestry he lived his life in these mountains he died fighting to have them protected as they are today so that people like myself can find their peace.

On the right is the giant sequoia General Sherman amongst the most radiant living organisms in the world. This living breathing creature has long survived all the conflict and turmoil us humans create to me this represents all that I love all the natural beauty in the world. I can see it wherever I am my fondest memory as a child is seeing this tree staring at it in awe.

These are my white ink tattoos, done by the awesome and hilarious Nino Brown at Black Rose Tattooers in Tucson, Az. He has worked on me for years and I adore his work.

The two tattoos were done at the same time but do not go together. The first is an Italian word “coraggio" which means courage. It is a special thing my little brother and I share and I wanted to make it a permanent part of me.

The other is just a fun piece. I love yoga and the theories behind it and the om is just such a lovely sound and has great meaning (one harmonious sound that brings the earth and universe into alignment).

My Wren.

The wren reminds us it is not the material items we gain, but the quality of relationships made along the way that enrich our lives. We can also interpret the wren’s flighty ways as a message to branch out, expand our circle of contacts, and step out of our habitual rounds in life. The wren is content to flit from place to place with shallow roots.

I used to see a lot of wrens in the backyard of the house that I grew up in. The wren has caught my attention since, and always reminds me of my childhood. I struggle a lot with nostalgia, and I feel that there have been times of my life where I have been held back because of my longing for the past. I designed this tattoo during a rough time of my life when I needed to accept change.

This tattoo reminds me of my childhood and encourages me to accept change. So remember the past, but don’t let it keep you from moving forward.
