This is my first tattoo. I got it just a few days after my 18th birthday this past summer. The flowers and vine don’t mean much, but the words “que sera sera” mean everything. My moms advice to me was always it is what it is and everything happens for a reason. I have been in 6 years of spanish and intend to continue on with it for a life time, it is my favorite language and is a huge part of my life. By getting que sera sera permanently reminds me what will be will be (which is the translation). Even if I am hit with a hard time, it always reminds me that everything will be okay, and its all meant to happen. My tattoo was done in Fawn Grove, PA at Good Karma Tattos by Star. It was such a wonderful experience, especially to have my big sister there holding my hand the whole time =]

I got this tattoo because “Just keep swimming” is another great way of saying “Conquer your fears”. The angler fish is the fear in Finding Nemo. So it just made sense ^.^

I got this tattoo Dec, 12, 2011 in Miami, FL by Dharma Tattoos My artist was Loco. This is my first tattoo but not my last, the meaning behind it is the passing of my grandma. She passed away about two months ago and this tattoo is my way of having her memory with me all the time. I got it behind my heart because she was a huge part of my life. The reason I got a love bird is because my fondest memory of my childhood with her was this huge walk in bird cage she had just filled with all kinds of love birds but these were her favorite. She was also a big fan of flowers which is why I got the stem of orchids. Being that it was my first tattoo it was painful but not as painful as I had imagined. My tattoo artist was great and very supportive through out the whole process and as you can see he is very talented. I am more than happy with the results, I will now carry the memory of my grandma with me every where I go.

This is my first tattoo, its right below my collarbone. :) Its a quote from the book Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is one of my favorite books. I love the meaning of the quote, and its something that I like to live my life by. It didn’t hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would! Only when it got close to my shoulder. :(

It was done at Electric Art by Matt.

i wanted something that paid homage to my family as well as my vietnamese roots. i landed on the idea of getting a lotus flower, which is what my vietnamese name means, with my family members’ names around it.

i’m stoked on it.

This is my first tattoo. It’s Beethoven’s signature. Being a musician with a passion for it, music is everything to me. I was infatuated with music until I heard his compositions. I’ve been in love ever since. His music has put me through every tough situation I’ve faced and I wouldn’t be who I am without him.

Though it’s still not finished, I’m thirteen hours deep on this piece. Starting in the front at my hipbone, it curls around my side in what has accumulated in 13 hours worth of work so far. Ben McClellan at redemption tattoo drew it free hand on me as I described what I wanted. He new exactly, better than I could have ever invisioned. I am named after the Liana vine, that my mother loved when she ran away to Hawaii at 17 years old. Hawaii and this vine particularly have occurred with significance throughout my life.

Could not be happier.

This is my 3/4 sleeve that i sat for from March to September (8 sessions, 3-6 hours each).  Designed by me, drawn and inked by Tim DeRose in Chicago. He did everything on my arm except the flowers on top of my shoulder, the triquetera (which was my very first tat a few years ago), and the eye/key on my wrist.

The main idea behind this sleeve is basic, really. I mainly just wanted to decorate my right arm, for a few reasons. 1) I am an artist 2) I am not religious, but i do feel spiritual about the imagination that goes on in my brain, that flows down my right arm and out of my hand to become art, and 3) I wanted the commitment of having a sleeve. I didn’t want to be one of those girls that has a couple small tattoos and thinks they’re awesome. I really wanted to show I was invested in this artform. I have plans for more tats in the future (probably on my ankles, next)

The triquetera is meant to be a protective symbol. The eye/key/sword symbolizes the Third eye (the seeing eye) that i relate to artistic vision here. the key points upwards towards my head, to unlock the imagination there.

Thanks for looking.

Taken right after it was done! Done by Marc at Soul Survivors in Winnipeg. It is, perfect. It’s more than just a disney tattoo to me. Granted, The Little Mermaid is definitely my favorite movie, but my grandparents lived on the ocean for a very long time. My grandma, mom, sisters and I used to walk up and down the beach almost daily looking for starfish, jellyfish, mermaids, orca’s, dolphins, etc etc. It was also the last movie I watched with my grandma and grandpa before my grandma passed away a year ago. Everytime I’m having a hard time I look down at this tattoo and remember that my grandma’s with me.

Ever since I was a kid I loved Cicadas. They remind me or summer, and being an Australian, they also remind me of Christmas time. I wanted this tattoo for a years, so when I turned 18, I thought I might as well just get it done. I just got it done locally and I can’t remember the name of the artist, but he loved insects and was so keen to do it. He based the shading off a real life Cicada specimen that he had in a special glass case that he brought in on the day just for my tattoo.

Now no matter where life’s journey takes me, I will always have my Cicada tattoo to remind me where I came from.
