Sisu-A somewhat mystical and magical concept used by Finns all around the world. We see it as a quality or character trait that runs through our blood. Loosely translated, it means to be brave and determined, or “to have guts.” Though, sisu is not momentary courage, but it is the ability to sustain that courage throughout a long term battle. As a Finn, Sisu is our philosophy that what must be done, will be done no matter the cost or outcome.
The handwriting is of my Nana’s. A dedication to the woman who taught all her grandkids “Sisu,” and inspired us to live our lives courageously.
