Devotion Ink in Nashua, NH by John Burnham
This is my first tattoo that I got especially for my grandmother.
For my whole life, my Nana was one of the women who raised me and made sure I had everything I needed. When things got tough she stepped in and took good care of my siblings and I. She was always there to make me laugh, and tell me the truth straight up. In the summer of 2011, I had moved in for the summer to help her and my aunt take care of the house and each other while my Aunt was healing. For the whole summer, I spent every day with my Nana. We got in plenty of fights, but she always knew how to make me laugh and take good care of me. She always made sure I had lunch, and that I didn’t sleep all day. She taught me a lot that summer. How to cook, clean, and how to be a good person.
On August 30th, after 4 days of battling for her life after falling, my Nana passed away. It happened so suddenly, it was almost scary. One moment, I was spending the day with her, having dinner with her, and the next I was rushing to the hospital only to spend a weekend in a hospital watching my grandmother lose the battle for her life.
I got this tattoo, to remember her. She always signed birthday cards the same way, and now, on every birthday, on every DAY, I get to remember that she loved me, and still does.

Both of these were done by my friend Kenny Reynolds, who just opened a shop called Big Bear Tattoo in St. Peters, Missouri. (www.bigbeartattoostl.com)
The heart on the left was done as a cover-up of a badly tattooed moon on my wrist. Kenny almost completely freehanded the entire tattoo. Besides the awesome bright colours he chose, what really is fun about this tattoo is that since it is placed over my tendons, when I flex I can make it look like it’s beating!
The tattoo on the right is a set of lyrics from my favorite episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Once More With Feeling. I grew up watching Buffy with my dad so the show has always been close to my heart. “Where Do We Go From Here?” has always been my favorite song in the episode, and the specific set of lyrics I chose because I feel as if they are relevant not only in my life, but as well as the lives of the people around me. We are all searching for someone to stand by our side, yet we are too afraid to let them when they try.
Overall, I love both of my tattoos, I couldn’t have found a better artist to put them on me. :)
